The Boy Who Held Back the Sea

You may have heard the story of the Boy Who Held Back the Sea: a Dutch lad is strolling along the dikes that hold back the ocean from his homeland, and discovers a leak. Knowing how quickly the dike will erode, he plugs the leak with his finger and waits for someone to come along and go for help.

The boy endures a freezing night of no sleep, and when he is finally discovered he still has to wait for the person to get back with help. Finally another takes over plugging the hole, others still repair it from the other side, and the boy is a hero.

So what does that have to do with a Kansas City insurance agent?

Health insurance is a mess – it’s a complex system that seems to get worse and worse. It’s been the core discussion and promise of a presidential campaign. In 2012, when ObamaCare went into effect, 14.7% of the United States population was uninsured

ObamaCare is now 10 years old, and 14.5% of US citizens were uninsured in 2019. (Updated statistics should be released in March).

Assuming the trend continues, the USA might be at 14.4% uninsured for 2023. In the meantime, health insurance premiums increased 105% (more than doubled) from 2012 to 2017, and the increases haven’t slowed down in the past five years.

So thus far, we haven’t seen the promised improvements. Lest this post seem to be biased against only one political party, we’d like to point out that the Republicans haven’t even bothered to propose an alternative plan of their own – they criticize a failed solution, but don’t have anything to offer other than a return to the same old, same old.

So how do I make a difference?

Kansas City - Union Station

Here’s the thing: if the network of health insurances available in this country is a series of dikes, then they’re leaking – badly. As mentioned, rates have quadrupled compared to what they were 10 years ago.

So what do we do?

First, we help you find the best available option.

I do this by learning the needs of your self, family, and/or business and employees. Once the needs and priorities are established, I can shop the different plans and insurance companies to find the insurance that will be meet those needs at the best possible price.

Secondly, we’re also learning about the dams. As a team, we’re not just plugging leaks. We’re learning how to build a better dike, and looking to get enough support to experiment with more dikes till we learn how to build the right one.

Individuals, families and businesses need help today – the insurance system itself will need help before long.
